Lazy Bear is here. For an event that's always been known for its loose interpretation of just being lazy, this year is anything BUT. It's gotten more structured than ever and when I think about it, more expensive, too. It really makes IBR's full run look like a better value. With Lazy Bear you buy your dog tags but you still have to pay for the big ticket evening events.
But take the structure away and this is what you have:
*Lots and lots and lots of men - big guys, hairy guys, shirts off, nipples to the sun, tanned skin peeking between verdant valleys of fur. As a friend put it, "more than just eye candy - it's a candy store."
*Perfect weather - not too hot, not too cold.
*Catching up with friends from near and far.
My house in the country is about 14 miles from Guerneville. Close enough that you can go back and forth but far enough away so you can enjoy a proper shower in the morning, a swim in a pool with CLEAR water and of course a nice comfy bed that's not an air mattress.
I've got a house full of guests - my friends Tony and Greg who came down from Seattle and another friend, Alan, from SF. It was Alan, Tony and Greg's first Lazy Bear and yours truly's seventh.
I came up on Friday night. I wanted to go to the bonfire but Tony and Greg were wiped out so being the nice host I stayed in. Alan arrived yesterday morning and we went up to the River around 11. Got great parking places and wandered around the resorts (Triple R, Woods, Fife's). Ran into scores of people including LJ'ers glovercom with his trophy husbear Philip and the Vice Wife, Timzilla. I had to laugh - Philip told me he arrived on Friday but Jeff had been up since Wednesday and sent T
pyrogeoff in the distance, everyone's favorite red-bear Daddy, Mike Bailey from Portland. Saw the always adorable
dhbearguy with the biggest grin on his face - he's a solo man this weekend and having a very good time. A nice big hug from him.
nemocub (Desmond) was up without Paul for the day and off to San Diego this week for the Comic Book convention where I learned he's an accomplished collector.
About 3:30 I hooked up with Alan and we drove back to the house. We immediately hit the pool and floated around on loungers. Tony and Greg joined us around 4:30 and by 5 we were all taking naps. Left the house by 6:30 as Bob was having a dinner party ("I'm not sitting idly at home while you're out having fun") so we said hello to the first of the arriving guests and then tore off and had a great dinner at Stella's Cafe. I'm so glad we went there because I knew all the Guerneville restaurants would be jammed. They were. Afterwards, we drove up to Guerneville and went to the Eagle (boring) and then headed off to the Bonfire. That was really fun and I ran in to a few people. We then decided to go to the Rainbow Cattle Co. but we couldn't find Alan. He was getting a blowjob in the woods. So I just went back into the woods and yelled "Alan, if it's a lousy blow, then zip it up and let's go!"
He was there in 2 minutes. It was a lousy blow.
Headed over to the Rainbow and we ended up saying hello to a clump of guys on the street. We milled around and shook hands and this cute guy looked at me after shaking my hand and said "you must have been holding something cold." I grinned and said "why don't you show me how you can warm me up." Enough said right there. His name was Steve, we had fun and I got home at 1:15am.
Today's goal is to get my houseguests laid and lazy. After all, this is what Lazy Bear is all about, right?
